Every company needs to make long-term decisions on occasion. These decisions usually have profound impact on your companies direction and financial results for years to come. Most such decisions however are based on rough estimates, hunches, rules of thumb and intuition. Having accurate information available to base these decisions on can save you millions, year after year.
Bring the information to the decisionmakers
Executives make their strategic plans on incomplete information not out of want, but simply because accurate data is not available to them, or not on short enough notice. Wahupa SCM allows rapid and easy modeling of the issues, and allows anyone within the company (if given the appropriate rights) to view, edit and aggregate the information. As a result executives can make strategic decisions based on good information.
Put the decisionmakers in control
When the decisionmakers have the information, they typically want to do what-if simulations on it. They want to tweak certain characteristics, such as demand, prices or capacity, to name a few, then compare the various plans against one another on a number of key performance indicators (KPI's) or on grades through scorecards. When a decision is made and a plan is set, it will then automatically drive medium-term plans (such as budgeting and sourcing) and contract negotions, and short-term plans. The employees need not see the strategic plan if the executives choose so, but all plans will have set targets and drivers (based on the KPI's and scorecards) to work against.
How to... in Wahupa SCM
There are two ways of implementing strategic planning in Wahupa SCM. The first is to have the detailed planning areas in place, then simply select and combine. Unfortunately, Wahupa SCM has not yet built all these detailed SCM areas, so this option, although possible, will not be affordable for a while (one of our stated objectives). The second is to model the strategic level independently, which allows decisions on better information, but does not allow the product to drive the detailed plans yet (at least the non-existing ones). We will opportunistically build and implement this should you want to become a first adopter. Read more about pros and cons of becoming an early adopter.
