The Quest for a Better Forecast Error Metric: Measuring More than the Average Error
This white paper was published in the July 2017 edition of Foresight magazine, the quarterly publication of the International Institute of Forecasters. At this time the paper can only be downloaded from the IIF website after a free registration. In future we will also offer it here.
The paper introduces a new probabilistic forecast accuracy metric, called Total Percentile Error (TPE). It provides formulae for a generic version and a simplified standard version. Excel files with working examples can be found here:
